Work in Progress
A personal goal of mine is to make a dish from every country. With around 200 countries in the world as of 2024, that is a lot of cooking to do. I will be using the Taste Atlas as a reference for which dishes I plan to make.
While every region, country, and even city is unique and has its own set of complexities in its cuisine, I will be categorizing each type of food in a very general cultural region scheme:
African/Caribbean: Areas of Africa with Dutch, English, French, and Portuguese influence. Also areas with Caribbean and Creole influence (Caribbean island countries and Guyana).
East Asian: Countries of the Orient including China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Nepal, and Mongolia.
Latin/Hispanic: South and Central America, a few Caribbean islands, as well as the Hispanic countries Spain and Portugal.
Middle Eastern: Arabia, North Africa, Turkic countries, and West Asia.
South Asian: Indo-Asia including India, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
Southeast Asian: Countries south of china, east of India, and north of Australia. I also included the smaller pacific island countries in this category.
Slavic: Slavic, Baltic, and Eastern European countries.
Western: Western European countries, Nordic countries, USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand as well as pacific island nations within the British Commonwealth and US territories.
